A Positive Future for Staff in Warrington?
Think health & safety and I bet moving & handling, fire awareness and first aid training immediately come to mind. But employers also have a legal responsibility to minimise the risk of stress related illness or injury.

Within Warrington Social Care Partnership the mental health and wellbeing of staff has been enhanced through a ‘Positive Thoughts’ programme encouraging staff experiencing depressive behaviour to implement relevant positive changes in their life.

Meetings

The first meeting of the year was held recently with CQC compliance inspectors advising social care providers that it is up to them to demonstrate, with evidence, how they meet new essential standards of quality and safety. The new standards were introduced on 1 October 2010.
More information is available on the CQC website www.cqc.org.uk

Skills for Care are supporting managers to meet the standards by providing a useful toolkit on their website www.skillsforcare.org.uk

Julie Bills Community Matton, End of Life Care informed providers of a 2 year training programme developed to ensure all residents receive high quality end of life care. More information from Julie or Pam Williams, Clinical Nurse Educator 01925 579201 www.endoflifecareforadults.nhs.uk

Social care was once described as a 'data desert' so Skills for Care have invested heavily in sound research that allows the sector to plan based on hard facts and not just anecdotal evidence.

The National Minimum Data Set for Social Care has already signed up more than 26,000 providers and their employees, who are helping produce rich data that will inform future planning for more than one million social care staff.
